Day 7 3/12

 “Nuestro ultimo dia” …. 

We started off our final full day by meeting the lovely Paloma and Carlos, who took us on an interesting bus ride to the city of Toledo. Upon arrival, we went on a brief walking tour where we learned about the Muslim and Jewish history of the city. We found it particularly fascinating that Toledo still has small tiles depicting menorahs throughout the landscape. We then toured the “Museo de la Tortura,” where we learned about the history of human torture: sexually, physically, and mentally. After some free time, we left Toledo and headed to Consuegra. In this small town, we saw a beautiful view, along with several massive windmills. Following the museum, we took pictures outside of the Catedral Primada de Toledo, a massive cathedral that was constructed in the 1200s. We stopped for lunch at a sandwich shop in Plaza de Zocodover, or as Paloma called it, McDonald Square.

After lunch, we split off and got to explore the many different stores that Toledo had to offer. Almost every other shop in Toledo showcased numerous different swords or knives. Paloma, along with some of the locals, informed us that the city was known for its production of steel blades.

Upon returning from Consuegra, we gave our thanks to Paloma and Carlos and went back to our hotel. We had a brief moment of free time before reconvening for our final group dinner. We ate at a restaurant called Lamucca de Carmen which offered a wide variety of food options that everyone could enjoy. After dinner we decided to roam the streets of Madrid, and visited a dessert shop called Salt and Cake, known for its wide variety of Spanish-style desserts. With Dr. P, Sergeant Mark and Ginger, we explored the shop and enjoyed trying some of the many sweet treats they bake in-store. Although Kristen and I accidentally led the group in the wrong direction at first, we still managed to end our last night in Spain on a very sweet note!
